    • 19 Aug 2018

    • Indian Rocks Beach Art Center, 1515 Bay Palm Blvd, Indian Rocks Beach, FL 33785

These techniques work on cotton, rayon, linen or other cellulose fibers ,also works on silk.

We will dye 5 gradations of a single color of fat quarters using low water immersion fiber reactive dyes as well as 5 blends of 2 colors on fat quarters. Example: aqua to lemon yellow

We will be using the baggie method and you will bring home work that is either ready for rinsing or close to it. Bring along a small tub of some kind (like a dishwashing tub or hospital type.) This will be used to transport your work home while still in baggies. You will also need to supply 2 1/2 yards of PFD (prepared for dyeing) cotton or washed bleached muslin that is NOT permapress. You want fabric that has not been treated with chemicals that would affect its ability to absorb the dyes. I also recommend an apron.

Kit: dyes sufficient for fabric , baggies, rubber bands, popsicle sticks, gloves, written instructions, worksheets for calculating and recording your work, extra worksheet for copying

I will go over the basics of using these types of dyes. I'll also cover lots of folding and pleating methods for resists to create effects in your color placement. We will explore reasons for dyeing your own fabrics as well as introduce other methods of adding color via printing, wax resist, etc. These will NOT be taught in this class but explored as other process options. This method is especially helpful to quilters wanting variations of color for blends and for applique.

The price includes the Kit Fee and the IRBAC Fee.
