The goal of the workshop is take a vintage piece of a textile that is of a personal nature or of a special meaning to the artist and create a new recycled quilted work of art. This vintage textile maybe a 1940’s commemorative pillowcase; a textile/pillow purchased as a souvenir; a vintage textile of a personal nature such as your childhood favorite doll’s dress or even your mother’s or grandmother’s favorite doily or handy. These vintage textiles are then turned into a quilted wall hanging which could go in either one or two directions whichever one the artist elects to do.
You may wish to take one vintage textile and make it be the main point of interest of your quilted wall hanging or choose a commemorative pillow from the 40’s that was dedicated to a mother, sister or wife; a 1940’s souvenir pillow that advertises a state or country i.e. Michigan, Florida, Holland or Spain. Then, too, there are the military souvenir pillows that commemorate a military event or military base. The finish project is a work of art, quilted wall hangings.
Another approach to doing a vintage quilted wall hanging is to use many smaller vintage textiles and objects to tell a story.
