May Workshop
Real Porcelain and Magic Metallics
with Bonnie Bowman
You will be given the opportunity to work in an open studio format (with plenty of help of course) to create your own buttons, beads or other embellishments using colored porcelain. Many of you familiar with polymer blends such as Cernit, Fimo or Sculpy. These plastic products form in ways that are similar to clay, but they are actually made of plastic and baked in the oven. Compared to these products, colored porcelain which is fired in a ceramic kiln at a very high temperature has the true look of real porcelain, because it is! Also, it is infinitely more durable than polymer. While we are waiting for your creations to dry enough for you do your” finish” work I will show you how to use an exciting product that allows you to paint on a real metal steel, copper, bronze etc. on to almost any surface. Then we will cause it to oxidize and “age” to a weathered patina right before your eyes.
