Fiber Vessels with Susan Lumsden

Let’s PLAY!!! Tired of working in a 2-dimensional world? Let’s take off and explore 3D! We’ll make bowls, platters, and just interesting structures that come up off the table or wall.
We will explore the structures required to create a self-supporting vessel. In general, we will follow the principles used with slab pottery techniques adapted to fiber. Using Peltex as the primary substrate, we add our own hand dyed and special fabrics then discuss ways to further embellish and build height and excitement.
Materials Student Brings - This is a one day, 6-hour class. The Peltex will be provided. Please bring along a Teflon, or other stick free surface. In a pinch, parchment paper will work. I use my Teflon sheets a lot, so I bought a 15 pack via Amazon for a really low price. If you even own a single sheet, you will find it useful anytime you are using anything fusible. I saved half of my order to use with my cookie sheets in the oven. Here is a link for a 15 pack. We will also be couching down yarns as embellishment, adding beads, foils, pigments, etc. I am suggesting you might bring along the following: None is Required
Bring a sewing machine with an extension cord, cutting mat, rotary cutter, heavy duty scissors, yarns, beads, heavy thread for bigger beads and hand needles, interesting pieces of fabric you don’t mind cutting up,
The stick free sheets are important. Something to cut with is also vital. Beyond that, we can wing it. An open mind, ready to explore and learn is also important.
