The workshop for June will embody surface design. Please join my class to create a piece of wall art.
Felt-making is a magical technique. It is both the action and the outcome. It is a hands-on process that is tactical and requires you to 'feel' the wool as you manipulate it. As the wool fibers become fabric, the consistency and colours blend. The medium allows for dimension and surface design. There is opportunity to incorporate different types of medium as you would with mixed media or collage.
While creating felt, colour may be used in a painterly fashion. The interplay with wool and fabric promote sculptural interpretation.
Is it an art or a craft?
We will start with a clean slate of wool as a backdrop. You will learn how to wet felt wool fiber to create a 'picture' whether realistic, abstract, whimsical, geometric or otherwise. Afterward, you can embellish with yarn, fabric, embroidery, found objects, polymer clay pieces, quilted pieces. Only your imagination will limit you.
Size will be limited to what can be reasonably completed within the class time.
For those who have taken a wall piece class in the past, I will help you learn how to use resists to create 3D expressions.
What do you need to bring: lunch and refreshments, apron, paper and pen for note taking and your enthusiasm to learn.
